About Us

Welcome to the January 2010 Manning River Summer Festival.
Every January the people of the Manning Valley and our visitors have come together to celebrate and enjoy the beautiful Manning River and the wonderful area in which we live. It is therefore appropriate that we have adopted the theme “Summer Celebration”.

The Manning River is a magnificent river on which you can enjoy a host of activities including boating, fishing, sailing, power boating, rowing, canoeing and skiing. Many of these activities are again featured in the program for this year’s Manning River Summer Festival.

This booklet contains details of all the events that will be held as part of the festival. Please take your time to check out the many events that you can enjoy during January.

The festival commences with the New Years Eve fireworks on the river bank at Taree. This year you will be entertained by the local artists from 6:00 pm. Spectacular fireworks will commence from floating pontoons on the river at 9:00pm.

The tagged fish competition will be held over the month in the Harrington / Manning Point area. This is your chance to enjoy fishing and at the same time win valuable prizes should you catch one of this year’s 25 tagged fish worth a total of $7,000.

We are pleased to again present Movies Around the Manning to three outdoor venues - Old Bar, Wingham, and Harrington. We present recently released family oriented movies on a huge 5 metre screen. Bring a chair or rug and enjoy.

The Summer Festival Talent Quest organised by Club Taree provides participants with the opportunity to showcase their talent and a chance to win some of the $3,000 prize money on offer. Please come and support our wonderful local talent.

The Manning Valley Ambassador Program will be held with a dinner & presentation taking place on 23rd January, 2010. Guests will enjoy a very special evening with entertainment – make up a table to support the our local youth.

One of the highlights of the festival is the Family Fun Day held in Queen Elizabeth Park, Taree on 26th January 2010. The Australia Day Ceremony will again be held starting at 7:30am with a free breakfast. There will be plenty of entertainment for the children with amusements and performances by the acclaimed Magician Jay Scott Berry. Other features of the day include the Mullet Cup Raft Race, market stalls and showcase performances by the finalists of the Summer Festival Talent Quest.

We are also pleased to present ‘Poets by the Sea’ at Harrington on 29-31 January 2010. This event, introduced last year, was very popular. Come and enjoy the many performances of verse over the weekend.

The festival continues to be organised by a small but dedicated committee appointed by Greater Taree City Council. We wish to acknowledge the assistance provided by Council, the councillors and officers.

The festival continues to grow year after year and we are very pleased to present 50 events as part of this year’s festival. We are appreciative of the support from a large number of community based groups that participate in the festival by organising and conducting various events. We greatly appreciate their efforts which enables a wide variety of events and activities to appeal to everyone.

We are also fortunate to have a number of businesses that financially support the festival. Please support the businesses that support the Summer Festival.

Please join us and Participate … Celebrate … Enjoy the beautiful Manning Valley.
